Understand the symptom

Start by separating hardware from software.

A stick drift report describes movement observed while the stick should be centered. The most useful interpretation separates steady center offset from random idle noise and brief peaks, then compares those values with the deadzone used by your game.

Average position shows where the stick tends to rest, while maximum and high-percentile movement describe the larger excursions seen during the sample. A single peak may come from vibration or a bumped surface; repeated directional offset is more meaningful.

The suggested deadzone is a starting point, not an automatic prescription. Games use different scales, inner and outer deadzones, response curves, and platform filtering.
