Data source
The tester uses the standardized browser Gamepad API. The operating system and browser decide whether a controller appears, which identifier and mapping label are exposed, how buttons and axes are ordered, and whether vibration controls are available. Values may already be normalized or filtered before the page receives them.
Live input display
The page reads the selected gamepad during animation frames while the tab is visible. It displays reported button values and axis positions without sending the live stream to our server. The visual controller layout uses the standard gamepad mapping when available; nonstandard devices should be interpreted by raw index.
Hands-off drift sample
The drift workflow records both main stick axes for eight seconds while the visitor leaves the sticks untouched. It summarizes center distance, average movement, maximum observed movement, and percentile noise. A suggested deadzone is an estimate above repeatable neutral movement with a small safety margin; it is not a universal game setting.
Any touched stick, moving surface, unstable wireless link, driver filter, or controller-side processing can affect the sample. We recommend at least two runs and an in-game confirmation.
Range and circularity
Range capture records observed minimums and maximums and plots movement while a stick is rotated. The trace helps identify repeatable short directions, clipping, or asymmetry. It does not recover unprocessed sensor values and should not be judged against a perfect mathematical circle.
Buttons and triggers
Buttons are tracked by index, pressed state, and reported analog value. Coverage records whether an input was seen during the session. Rapid transitions and unusually long holds can be clues, but web sampling cannot electrically certify switch chatter or a stuck mechanism. Triggers are usually standard buttons 6 and 7, but nonstandard mappings may differ.
Browser-observed update rate
When the controller timestamp changes, the tool records the interval between fresh samples and summarizes the observed frequency. This is not end-to-end input latency, USB polling certification, or a guarantee of game performance. Browser scheduling, display refresh, operating-system behavior, power state, background load, and the device implementation all influence the observation.
Vibration
The tool checks for a browser haptics interface and sends a short pulse only after the visitor presses the vibration button. Software support does not prove that the motor physically moved, so the person holding the controller confirms the outcome.
Reports and account synchronization
A report is a point-in-time summary of a completed browser test, not a continuous recording or hardware certificate. Local reports stay in the current browser. If a signed-in member chooses to import a completed report, the saved snapshot is copied to the member’s cloud account; the continuous live controller input stream is not uploaded.
Comparisons are most useful when the controller, connection method, browser, operating system, power state, and test procedure are recorded consistently. A difference between two reports can justify another test, but it does not by itself identify the failed component.
Reproducibility checklist
- Use a stable surface and do not touch sticks during drift sampling
- Record browser, operating system, controller name, and connection method
- Close remapping or virtual-controller layers when isolating hardware
- Repeat suspicious results over a direct wired connection when possible
- Confirm important findings in the target game, console, or repair software
