Diagnostic readings describe what this browser receives, not electrical measurements from the controller. Confirm important findings in the game or device where you plan to use the controller.

Controller overview

What this browser check can reveal

Connect a DualShock 4 controller and press any button to begin checking the standard inputs available to the browser. The tester covers both sticks, the directional pad, face and shoulder buttons, stick clicks, and analog triggers.

On a PC, a DualShock 4 may behave differently over USB and Bluetooth or when a compatibility layer converts it to an Xbox-style layout. The browser-reported device name and labels reflect the active driver path, not necessarily the logo printed on the controller.

Touch coordinates, motion data, the speaker, light bar, and platform-specific rumble are not guaranteed in a webpage. Use official or supported game software when testing those features.

Connection notes

Start with a known, stable connection.

  • Check standard DualShock 4 buttons and D-pad directions
  • Measure left- and right-stick center movement
  • Compare L2 and R2 release and maximum values
  • Inspect raw mapping when PC labels look incorrect
Inspection workflow

A practical controller checklist.

  1. 01

Confirm the controller appears and the reported name or identifier is plausible.

  2. 02

Press and release every button, D-pad direction, stick click, bumper, and trigger.

  3. 03

Run the hands-off drift sample, then sweep both sticks through their full range.

  4. 04

Disconnect and repeat in the connection mode you actually plan to use.

  5. 05

Verify any fault inside a supported game or console before making a purchase or repair decision.

Compatibility is a chain, not a promise

Compatibility software can hide the controller behind a virtual device.

Frequently asked

PS4 DualShock 4 Controller Test questions

Why does my DualShock 4 appear as an Xbox controller?

Steam Input or another compatibility tool may be presenting an emulated XInput device. Close or reconfigure that software if you want to inspect the controller's direct browser mapping.

Can I test the touchpad?

The touchpad click may appear as a button, but finger position is generally not exposed as a standard gamepad control in browsers.

Why is Bluetooth behavior different from USB?

The operating system can use different drivers and reports for each transport. Test both modes with the same browser if you are troubleshooting a connection-specific problem.
