Stick drift and deadzone

Set the controller on a steady surface and do not touch either stick during the sample.

Ready for an 8-second sample.

Range and circularity

Rotate each stick slowly around the outer edge, then sweep the center in several directions.

Move the sticks to begin range tracking.

Buttons and D-pad

Press and release every available control. Analog buttons show their reported value.

Axes and mapping

Use these values to spot unusual layouts. A blank standard mapping does not automatically mean the controller is defective.

Diagnostic readings describe what this browser receives, not electrical measurements from the controller. Confirm important findings in the game or device where you plan to use the controller.

Controller overview

What this browser check can reveal

Joy-Con controllers may appear to a computer as separate left and right gamepads instead of one combined controller. Select each detected device in the tester and check its analog stick, directional or face buttons, shoulder controls, and connection stability.

A browser cannot combine separate Joy-Con devices into a single virtual controller. Pairing behavior, SL/SR buttons, motion sensors, HD Rumble, rail connection, and system buttons depend heavily on operating-system and driver support.

For drift testing, place the selected Joy-Con on a flat surface and sample it without touching the stick. Save a separate report for the left and right device so the results remain clear.

Connection notes

Start with a known, stable connection.

  • Select and test each browser-detected Joy-Con separately
  • Measure small-stick center offset and range
  • Verify exposed face, direction, and shoulder buttons
  • Save clearly labeled left and right reports
Inspection workflow

A practical controller checklist.

  1. 01

Confirm the controller appears and the reported name or identifier is plausible.

  2. 02

Press and release every button, D-pad direction, stick click, bumper, and trigger.

  3. 03

Run the hands-off drift sample, then sweep both sticks through their full range.

  4. 04

Disconnect and repeat in the connection mode you actually plan to use.

  5. 05

Verify any fault inside a supported game or console before making a purchase or repair decision.

Compatibility is a chain, not a promise

Frequently asked

Nintendo Joy-Con Controller Test questions

Can I test both Joy-Con as one controller?

Only if your operating system or a trusted compatibility layer already presents them as one gamepad. The webpage itself cannot merge two physical devices.

Why are my Joy-Con shown separately?

That is a common computer Bluetooth behavior because each Joy-Con is an independent wireless device. Nintendo Switch pairing handles combination at the system level.

Does the test check Joy-Con motion controls?

No. The browser Gamepad API generally exposes standard buttons and axes, not the complete motion-sensor or rail-feature set.
